Relief Map showing terrain between Kagel and Marshall Peak California
(Virtual Reality Files below the image)
Take a Virtual Reality tour of this terrain:
Your browser can become a virtual reality player of this terrain by clicking on this file. But you will need to have an appropriate plug-in. This would be a ".wrl viewer". There are several available and you might already have one. Try to load the file and if it doesn't run, then here are a couple of options for plug-ins. Get one (I suggest Cosmo) and then run the .wrl file in the above link.

Here are a couple of plug-ins.... Cosmo, and Zeus and others.

You will need a computer capable of at least a few hundred Mhz for it to run smoothly and the faster the better. Mine is 350 Mhz and this file is OK but I wish it were a faster response. The larger the terrain area the slower the response so I rotated the image to have the two flying sites at the extreme corners and chopped off the terrain at the 34th parallel, and reduced the resolution a bit, all to increase response time. I put a little red smudge on each of the launch areas to help identify them while "flying" (nothing implied by using the color red, it's just for contrast :) . The wrl viewers take a bit of practice to learn to operate so have patience. Cosmo has a speed control which is nice. With time it can be fun touring the terrain either along the ground or flying at whatever altitude you like. Enjoy. Ps: I prefer the Cosmo viewer for this type of wrl viewing and the Zeus more for 3d object rotational viewing.

IS YOUR SCENE JUST ALL WHITE?
If the scene comes up but stays just a white snowy terrain then the wrl file is running ok but it can't find the background jpg file. Try this... run the file from your own computer and not from the internet. This means getting copies of the 2 files saved somewhere on your hard disk. One at a time on each of these files, first "Right click" then left click on "save target as". Then save it to a folder in your computer. I suggest a folder like "My Documents". Please make sure that the file called m2k.jpg doesn't get saved as m2k.jpeg (note the letter e in .jpg) or the wrl file won't find it. Then using your browser click "file", "open" and "browse" to open the file you just saved called m2k.wrl. Here are the files...file 1, and file 2.
