Visiting Novice PG pilot somehow ends up down in the canyon NW of Regionals launch and leaves the wing laying scttered and walks away. This precipitated a nearly hour long search and rescue because those flying over could not see any pilot movement or wing being folded.
It eventually was determined that the pilot was fine and simply walked away to go to the LZ.
We don't know details of how the pilot ended up there or whether there was any loss of control. But the need to such an extended search and rescue is what qualifies this for entry into the incident list. More info would be appreciated, including the exact location of where the pilot landed.
Remember, if you land out, think of what those flying over will be thinking. If you are able to fold your wing then do so. If you are hurt then do nothing,... the lack of wing folding will be taken as a sign that you need help.
